'Nevada City'

Hi guys:)
We have a wonderful new challenge over at Mixed Media & Art, it
requires letters and a handmade background. I love our moodboards,
the kind that really make the wheels in your head start turning:)

'Nevada City'

This layout turned out to be second in my mini series of pages with an Americana feel to them.
I imagined this elegant young lady as a daughter of the English industrial revolution who
immigrated to America looking for a new life.
Following our amazing new moodboard, I created an intricate, messy background
filled with lots of layers of heavy white gesso, letters stencils, and inks.

Here is the new challenge:

I have to pinch myself every time I see my work on this blog,
I can't believe the amount of pure talent these girls show with every
project, technically so flawless and so creative!
We have great prizes to be won too:)
More info on this challenge here.

Here are a few details:

I used a piece of Blue Fern Studios paper from the 'Chesterfield' collection. Love these papers!
So perfect for a grungy artsy page.

To alter my 2 Crafty Chipboard letters and gears, I first covered them in white gesso, and
heated then on high so that the gesso bubbles and cracks. Then I painted them unevenly
with a little bit of black watercolor, and then finally, embossed them in copper
embossing powder to give them an aged metallic look.

I hope that you feel inspired to join us :)

'mum'

Hello friends, I hope everyone is enjoying their summer so far?
I get to stay at home with the little man today and I am hoping he lets me get crafty
for just a little bit. I am here to share another page created with the
May kit from Scraps of Elegance called 'Mix'd Media.

'mum'

I figure there's two ways to go with these gorgeous Blue Fern Studios papers; either
go light and let the papers themselves really shine, just like I did on my last page with
this kit, or to go really bold and crazy with the inks, which is what I did here :).
This page was looking really dull and I wasn't happy with it at all, and it
almost landed in the trash, but I decided to go nuts with some inks and get
colorful by adding lots of 'Vintage Photo'  ink to the background and then I added
some watercolors in teal and green to add another dimension, and in the end, I loved it.
So if you're ever in the same boat, just think: what have you got to lose? Try going bold
with some different colors and you just might be surprised :)

To find our kits online please go here,
and don't forget to check out our blog here, we have so much inspiration
for you to see how we used our amazing kits.

Here are a few details:

I used the Kaisercraft stencil and the textured sand paste on my background
and it turned out so pretty, especially if you rub a little white gesso over
it with your fingers, it really brings out the pattern of the stenciling.

I also used the Blue Fern Studios chipboard that came with the kit,
and I added a few more pieces from my stash.
And what's a vintage layout without flowers?! I also used some pretty
Prima blooms from the Floral add On.

See you soon,
Lisa xo

'This is the moment' a new layout for Vintage Card Cafe

Hi girls. I was invited by the lovely ladies over at 'Vintage Card Cafe'
to be a Guest Designer for one of their challenges about travel, and I began
daydreaming about voyages to exotic lands far away....

'This is the moment'

A photo of a beautiful old doorway help me set the mood for my page. I wanted to create
a background inspired by the texture of these crumbling walls. I was also going for an earthy
look so I added a lot of natural elements like twigs, fabric, sisal and seashells,
and of course lots of messy watercolors. I used an older Prima collection that I really love,
the colors are so beautiful, I adore brown purple and pink all together.

Here is this month's challenge:

For more info, please go here.
These are the sweetest girls ever, and if you love a shabby style,
then you'll love the work on this blog.

Here are a few details:

Working on my backgrounds are my favourite part of designing a page, and
I'm always trying to think of new ways to really build up lots of layers of textures,
it's just one of the things I really love about 'scrap art' as I like to call it.
It's not hard to do, just try incorporating anything you have on hand. I've been using
lots of cotton laces and fabric scraps lately, and I think it adds another dimension to a design.
Another thing I love is building lots of layers with watercolors inks and heavy gesso.
Here I used some textured sand paste through a stencil, and then heated it with my
heat tool until the gesso bubbles and cracks, voila! Great textures for your inks to run through.

Thanks for the invitation! I hope you join in the challenge :)

'Strand, London'

Good morning my crafty ladies, I have another layout to share made
with the beautiful May Scraps of Elegance kit 'Mix'd Media'.

'Strand, London'

Even though this kit is actually called 'Mix'd Media', I wanted to try  a different look for this layout,
one not so weighted down by mediums, but free of them. All I added was a bit of
watercolor on the background, and then created a lot of layers with the Blue Fern
Studios 'Happy Accident' papers and some vintage ephemera.
These papers are so beautiful with so much going on, that I wanted to let the paper itself
really shine. I also used the Blue Fern Studios chipboard pieces from the same collection and some
of the Tim Holtz ephemera from the Elements Add On.

To find out where to buy our kits, please go here,
and don't forget to check out our blog for loads of inspiration on
what to do with our kits! We have two kits that come out each month,
and you won't want to miss them :)
And don't forget to share your creations with our kits in our facebook group
which you can find here. We love to see what you create!

Here are a few close ups:

I used to design for Blue Fern Studios and I've been raiding my stash lately
whenever I get the chance to design with their paper collections. Here I added
some of my all time favourite chipboard pieces called 'Marakkesh Panel'
that I first covered in gesso and then colored using the same watercolors
that are in my background.

I am totally addicted to the vintage stuff I find at estate sales, and last weekend I went
to a great one where I found some old pillowcases with beautiful cotton lace.
Here I ripped off the eyelet trim and added it down my page, love how it looks.

Thanks for the visit!
Hugs, Lisa xox

'Boston' a new layout for Mixed Media & Art

Good morning girls! It's my turn up on the blog
Mixed Media & Art today, and I created a layout in my favourite vintage style.

'Boston'

I took my inspiration from the worn and cracked look of the colors,
and also I really noticed the textures jumping out at me,
and I tried to create the same look on my background here using
texture sand paste and some stencils. I also added lots of 13 arts inks in turquoise,
black and chalk blue, and then added some chipboard and some torn up lace.

Here is our current moodboard:

Here are a few close ups too:

I used some Blue Fern Studios papers from the 'Happy Accident' collection
that came in my May Scraps of Elegance kit, and I also used some BFS chipboard
pieces, the butterflies and the Moroccan lattice.

I love the chipboard that goes with this collection, anything vintage
really catches my eye :)

My project is a bit late this month, so this challenge ends really soon, but stay tuned for
next month's moodboard, it's absolutely beautiful - as they are each and every month!
I am so blessed to stay on this amazing team for another term! Olya and all the other girls
are so talented, and this blog is always a well of inspiration, so please check out the blog here.

See you soon,
Hugs, Lisa xo

'Lucky'

Good morning my lovelies, I hope everyone has some time to get crafty this weekend!
It's time to share my first layout made with the gorgeous
Scraps of Elegance May kit called 'Mix'd Media' full
of the collection 'Happy Accident' by Blue Fern Studios.

'Lucky'

My best friend at work came in one day and showed me this photo of her mother that she had found going through her mother's things, and I just love her happy expression and that dress! Can you imagine wearing something that fancy? I knew I just had to scrap it, and the pretty pink papers by Blue Fern Studios were the perfect backdrop. I'm planning on buying one those shadow
box frames at Michael's and giving it to her as a gift :)

Here is the May kit, it's already sold out, so the best way to make
sure you don't miss out is to become a subscriber, trust me,
you will never be disappointed! Melinda always has the most wonderful
Add Ons too, the Floral Add On always has such beautiful flowers,
and compliments everything in the kit.

You can find out how to subscribe here, and don't forget to check out our blog, here.

I would like to enter my layout in a sketch challenge I found on a blog
You can find more about the challenge, here.

Here are a few close ups:

See what I mean about the Floral Add on???? Such pretty Prima blooms
that perfectly match this month's papers.

I created my background by using lots of watercolors and then over the top I added some stenciling with the Kaisercraft stencil and the DecoArt Media Texture Sand Paste. Then I added some of the Blue Fern Studios chipboard, Prima Metal Trinckets, and the Maya Arts Ivory Ribbon that I ripped in half, colored with some pink 13 arts ink, and then scrunched it up down the side of my page.

I also used the Blue Fern Studio stamp, 'Halftones',
and the Tim Holtz Botanical Ephemera included in the Elements Add On.

Thanks for looking, I'll be back soon!
Hugs, Lisa xo

'Girl in Pink'

Hi guys! As you might have seen a few days ago 13arts ran a really fun
contest on their blog in honour of Children's Day in Poland. They posted a
photograph of all the designers from their childhood and then asked if anyone
could correctly guess who each little darling was. It was really tricky! Even I didn't guess
them correctly! (although a few of them were super easy to spot).
Well the photo I had sent was one of me as a little girl that I had never seen before
my mum brought me a copy of it the last time my parents visited us.
So I wanted to create a page with this cute photo and I wanted to make it
really girly and sparkly.....

'Girl in Pink'

I used an older 13 arts collection called 'Secret Letters' designed by Aida, do you
remember it? It's so pretty, lots of pinks and greys, and so I used different papers
from this collection to add lots of layers, and then I used a doily stencil, some white gesso
and some 13 arts inks for creating my background.

I used some Splash Ink in 'Gold Glitter' on all my chipboards, and it
looks so pretty! Alot of different glitters don't show up very well, but this ink
is really dense and really adds so much sparkle!

Here is a list of all 13 arts products I used:

'Secret Letter' paper 'Written Stories'
'Secret Letters' paper 'Little Secrets'
13arts White Gesso
13arts Gel Medium
Stencil 'Doily'
Splash Ink 'Gold Glitter'
Ayeeda Mist 'Pearl Gold'
Ayeeda Mist 'Pearl Pink'
Chipboard 'Butterflies'
Chipboard His & Hers'

You can check out our online store here, and don't forget to visit our blog here.
Keep your eye out for our new collections being released soon...I can't wait!

Thanks for looking, hugs to my friends that always support me with their kind words
and messages XOXOXOXO
Lisa

'Always'

Good afternoon my friends! I have another layout to share with you created with
the gorgeous April Scraps of Elegance kit, this time about me and my boy.

'Always'

I love the depth to these 49 & Market papers, the layers of colors and the flowers and ink spots
are beeeaaauuutiful! I went with the flower garden theme of this paper and created a really colorful
background with watercolors and lots of stamping.

You can purchase our kits here, and our find our online store here.
I already received the kit for May, and I'm in love!
Can't wait to start playing with it this weekend :)

I would like to enter my page in a beautiful challenge I found
called 'Flower Mood'',on a blog called 'Chip-Azhur'.
The challenge is to use spring flowers and chipboard. I have used some 49 & Market
flowers that I colored with my watercolors, and also some 2 Crafty Chipboard pieces.

Here are a few close ups:

I used the papers and Scrapberry's buttons from the Main Kit, flowers from the Floral Add On,
and then I fussy cut some butterflies and that little dove from the note cards and the 49 &Market stickers from the Elements Add On.

Toodles!
